| On the left is your striking photo. You've caught the reflection at just the right moment. However, in the middle version, I've tried reducing the empty space at each side of the balloon so as to concentrate more attention onto it. I think this version would do if you wanted to suggest that the balloon was descending straight down into the water! On the right, I've tried leaving a bit more room on the right, so suggesting that this is the direction in which the balloon is travelling. I think this is my favourite version, but if you prefer the perfect symmetry. you'd go for one of the other ones. Take your pick! Reply from Keith Cantrell: "Thanks for your input, I think cropping it helped. I took this at a balloon festival this year . We were taking off on a hair and hound race, I took this shot during lift off using a Canon EOS , Fuji 400 asa film, automatic exposure. Thanks Keith." |

| Your photo on the left might be improved by cropping away the building, as on the right. This concentrates attention on the balloons. Another really effective picture. "i've just started taking photo's, these were shot with a minolta 3 slr. I would be pleased if you would give me your thoughts. thanks" (Tom Tatter) |

| Your photo on the left rather lacks definition. Is this because it is an enlargement of a much bigger scene? Some foreground framing might have helped. Anyway, I'd be inclined to move in closer still, as on the right, assuming that it is the rocks that you really want to show us. |

| I really like your photo on the left, even though there is rather a large empty area in the top right. This is why I've moved in closer in my version on the right. Now we really concentrate on the cat. I think the result is very pleasing. |

| The problem here is that the tiger is almost lost in the background. Move in closer, as on the right, and it stands out just a bit more clearly. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This is the least successful of your photos, because the right-hand side of it is lost in darkness. For once, it might have been more interesting to have seen a more distant view of it, so as to establish its setting. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| These are certainly a very varied set of photos. I think you've got off to a good start! Reply from Tom Tatter: "Thanks very much for your comments,the bridge shot was one of many shot as the night drew in. The same as the 12 apostles in Aussie . Great website. Thanks." "I took this photo at a local animal rescue shelter." (Keith Cantrell) |

| A very good photo - even if it's not quite what I would have expected to find at a local animal rescue shelter! It's very effectively composed using the intersection of thirds principle, and you've got really close in. What else could I ask for? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

"I took this picture with a Fuji 400 asa , Canon elon ll on auto setting." (Keith Cantrell) |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This photo isn't so successful because the black kitten gets rather lost in the background, and the picture doesn't seem quite as sharp as it might be. But it's a nice idea. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
