| Please click on any book cover below for more information. My own favourite photographic books are the "Better Picture Guide" series by Michael Busselle, as I find them really creative, and they are illustrated by excellent photos. They include: |

| Better Picture Guide to Photographing People I particularly recommend this title. It's full of really helpful suggestions, such as the recommendation to use light from a window to photograph people indoors - and to check that the subject is not too contrasty by looking at it through half-closed eyes. |

| Better Picture Guide to Black & White Photography I myself very much like the imaginative approach of this book. |

Better Picture Guide to Landscape Photography Another imaginative, very well illustrated book, even if Busselle does seem to use filters (or combinations of filters) for just about every picture - but the results are really most impressive. There is much useful advice, such as to use a tripod not only to eliminate the risk of camera shake with a telephoto, but to allow more precise composition . |

| The Absolute Beginner's Guide to Taking Great Photographs Jim Miotke, author of the http://www.betterphotos.com website (no connection with this site!), tries hard to be fun, and he has plenty of useful, practical advice for the beginner. This starts with choosing a camera and covers most beginners' problems, but I'd particularly recommend it for non-digital users, for those still trying to decide what sort of camera to buy, and those who are looking for subjects to photograph! |

Photography Basics. A revised paperback edition of the Hedgecoe classic, with a new special section devoted to digital. John Hedgecoe has written innumerable photographic books, all rather similar, but all attractively presented and easy to read. This one is aimed at the beginner with most of it taken up with helpful and very well illustrated advice on composing the picture. Recommended. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
